WHAT TIME IS IT, GEORGETOWN? TIME TO READ THE VILLAGE'S PROPERTY TAX LOAD
Big pat on the back to Topher Mathews who posted the Georgetown property tax list on his Georgetown Metropolitan website. In fact, read his analysis here. It comes from a site called BlockShopper. Below are the highlights. It is interesting to note the amount of the property tax, but also who owns what. The big message, though, is that Georgetown pays monster property taxes. No news to landlords and residents, but hopefully something that would be regarded by critics of the community. I was painfully aware of the fact during the years I owned Nathans, where the lease required me to pay the property tax for the whole building. Huge.
Neighbors give Tudor Place a hard time, but that museum pays an enormous property tax. It must make the overseers wonder sometimes if all the squabbling is worth it.
Are these taxes fair? Do the property owners get a return from the city (in services other than possible online gambling)? You be the judge. Here's the top ten. Holiday reading, folks.
