THE SORBET BETWEEN DINNER COURSES, CHEZ SWITZERLAND
Not quite Cinderella but still home from the ball before midnight. I need my sleep. Interesting evening. Lovely at the home of the Swiss ambassador, especially during cocktails on the terrace on this sweet late spring night. Twenty guests including Chief Justice Roberts and his wife, and David and Alice Rubenstein. Incense and a swing band at the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates, done up as a dessert Oasis - mysterious, musical, provocative. Maybe a little too exotic for some DC types, but they lit up at the sight of the candy bar. As I mentioned earlier, there will be a full report on Monday at washingtonian.com. For now, here are a few pics:
LOOKING IN TO DINNER FROM THE LIVING ROOM OF THE SWISS RESIDENCE
AT THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES EMBASSY
ONE OF THE MANY ROOMS AT THE UAE WHERE THE MOOD WAS ARABIAN NIGHTS
THE CANDY BAR: MALTED MILK BALLS, JUNIOR MINTS, DOVE, MILKY WAY...
The most exciting moment of the evening: driving home and having a deer dash through traffic on Masssachusetts Avenue and in front of our car!
