Why is it John Boehner, as Speaker of the House, can get away with odd behavior that would have taken down Nancy Pelosi in the same job? I mean, what if she cried all the time? What if she refused to ride on Air Force One with President Bush, or refused to go to State dinners? Heck, these people can do whatever they want as far as I'm concerned, but I'm just wondering, why is it okay for him to behave this way?
In a catastrophe that takes out the President and Vice President, the Speaker of the House is in line to become Chief Executive of the nation. So, from that person, in their job as Speaker, we want to see Statesmanship, don't we? Rising above the fray, taking the high road, doing the right thing even when its athwart one's political leanings? That means to man up, hop aboard the big jet with the boss (yes, your boss, too, Mr. Speaker), and abide by proper etiquette and accept an invitation to the White House.
I've been a dinner partner with John Boehner. He's an interesting conversationalist and has an impressive love for the history of the Capitol. But he's acting like a child and needs to step up. If he doesn't he's just a pawn for his party's baser instincts and not a true leader of his country.
My two cents.
Was Harry Reid at the state dinner?
