WISCONSIN AVENUE IN GEORGETOWN, 3PM, THANKSGIVING DAY
On the way home from a delicious Thanksgiving luncheon at 1789 Restaurant we came upon a mess of cop cars and fire engines in the block of Wisconsin Avenue that's just above Dumbarton Avenue. The cops told us it was a gas explosion. Later we heard it was a "building collapse." Honestly, in that block, neither would surprise me. We just carried on with a lovely Thanksgiving afternoon walk home.
THE BUILDINGS WHERE WHATEVER HAPPENED SUPPOSEDLY HAPPENED
There are few sketchier blocks of Washington DC real estate than that stretch of Wisconsin above Dumbarton and below Q. Who knows what goes on in most of those buildings. Once upon a time The Washington Post was fairly on top of it, and even did an expose of the tenants, but those days of media scrutiny in DC are long, long gone.
At 7:30 p.m. Wisconsin Avenue in Georgetown was still closed to traffic. It reopened shortly before 9 o'clock.
