THE CAR ON THE RIGHT CRASHED INTO THE HOUSE ON THE LEFT
Hey, I don't patrol the streets of Georgetown. In fact, tonight I had just come home from a dinner party, was walking the dog, when a neighbor stopped me to say, "you should get over to 28th and P, a car flew into a basement apartment." I took the bait.
But sure enough the tip was accurate. A car had crashed into the basement of a townhouse on 28th and P while the couple who live there were one floor up, watching TV. I asked them what they were watching. "I don't remember," said both.
No one was injured.
The car that flew into the basement was apparently rear-ended by another car and the driver of that car was arrested. I know no details about the arrest. All I know is that the incident happened at approximately 8:15, P Street was still closed down at 11 pm, there were lots of local TV crews, police, fire and Emergency services.
I asked the young couple if they would be able to spend the night in their house. "No," they said. He's a lawyer, she's an interior designer. They plan to be married in three months. They didn't want their names published. "The fire department is not sure of the stability of the building," he said. No kidding. There was a large crack running up from what remained of the downstairs window to the upstairs window - clearly visible from across the street.
