SUMMER JOY AT THE GEORGETOWN WATERFRONT PARK
In no particular order, here's what I'll miss of summer:
--The long span of daylight
--Empty parking spaces on my street
--Easy restaurant reservations
--Heat
--"Let's deal with that after Labor Day."
--The summer prix fix 4-course dinner deal at 1789 Restaurant
--Hot dogs (at Haute Dog) and ice cream (at Thomas Sweet) just because
--Frozen custard at The Dairy Godmother
--The revivifying embrace of an ocean breeze
--Sunsets after a thunderstorm
--Sand
--Sunburn
--The bounty of the farmers markets
--"Let's go have a swim at Chevy"
--Wearing sandals and slip dresses
--The scent of Coppertone
--Windows open, listening to the laughter at evening parties in neighbors' gardens
--Children, on city sidewalks, splashing in the water of garden hoses
--Wandering the grounds of Mount Vernon
--Sitting outside, anywhere and everywhere
--Fresh Chesapeake crabmeat
--That bracing first sip of an iced, cold glass of fresh lemonade
--Baseball (on TV and nights at Nats Park)
--Locally grown produce
--Taking a nap on a picnic blanket in a field of grass and flowers at the National Arboretum
--Steamed sweet corn with butter and salt
--The song of the Cicadas
--Fireflies
--The trashtastic summer season of "Real Housewives Trannies of Orange County"
--Young and old splashing in the fountain of the Georgetown Waterfront Park
--The shade of Dumbarton Oaks
--Long drives with the windows open, playing the beach Top 40
--Wash n' wear hair
Just think, soon enough it will look like this:
