NEWT GINGRICH AND HIS WIFE, CALISTA, WITH FRIENDS AT THE "CROSSFIRE RETURNS" PARTY
Last night I was in a kind of bliss -- for a little while, at least -- at FedEx Field for the season opener. I was a guest of one of my favorite business titans, FedEx founder Fred Smith, and his wife, Diane, in their half of the owner's suite (Dan Snyder, and his wife, Tanya, have the other half). In the beginning both halves belonged to Jack Kent Cooke. And that's all I can tell you because the evening was OTR, though I did put some observations up on washingtonian.com. For example, the Redskins cheerleaders twerking.
MARGARET CARLSON IN HER KITCHEN WITH JOHN FOX SULLIVAN AND MATT COOPER
Tonight was back down on earth. A couple of media parties. The first at the fairly groovy Connecticut Avenue apartment of Margaret Carlson - a media person with so many hyphens in her identifier I can't possibly begin to get the list right. Had a particularly enjoyable conversation with Shelby Coffey of the Newseum, Jennifer Nycz-Conner, of Washington Business Journal, and we were joined by Washington Post "Style" editor Frances Sellers, who was kind of a kick. I loved that she announced she has three jobs to fill. Do I hear a stampede? I ask you, when are editors ever that candid?
NO, THESE ARE NOT MEMBERS OF A NEW ALT-ROCK BAND. THEY ARE THE ANCHORS OF THE NEW CROSSFIRE. NEWT IS THEIR LEADER.
My next stop was CNN's party for the relaunch of Crossfire. It had a jazz band. Seriously. I will have more about both tomorrow ... back on washingtonian.com.
