CUE PAUL GIAMATTI: "...HUMANS." THOUGH MAYBE IT SHOULD BE "...TREES!"
This was one unfortunate result of today's rain and wind storm in DC. I feel for the owner of the car but I don't blame the tree. In fact, I mourn for the tree. To walk by on O Street and look at it, day in and day out, there was no sign of infirmity -- like so many Georgetown trees. But in the last 15 years I've watched at least 7 mature trees on my street (alone) come down like this, any many others elsewhere in the neighborhood. What they have in common is over grown limbs (no pruning) and a weak root base. They get top heavy. They need more care and feeding by the city. For that reason I try not to park under old trees.
It appeared that only two cars got squashed; the one on the right worse than the left. The one on the left maybe can be driven, but it has roof and window damage. The one on the right, a Honda Civic, has flattened tires, roof, windows. Let's hope the owner has good insurance and can get a new car. What a nightmare, but glad to report no human was hurt.
