Georgetown does not get much sympathy as a whole but with this nagging issue I would ask for compassion for anyone who lives on a Q Street that is in the same area as an O Street, as is the case in Georgetown. We have both and both have the same house numbers. A year or so ago the USPS started reassigning the delivery staff after years of having specific individuals assigned to specific streets. It was a choice that is out of our hands but what it has wrought is an epic confusion between the similar numbered addresses on O and Q.
Days can go by when I get no mail, and then for a day or two I'll get mail only for the corresponding house number on the other lettered street. I put these letters -- often bills -- in the letter box with a forwarding address. The address that corresponds to my house number is an apartment building and I think my mail just goes ... who knows where? Not to me. I get no forwarded mail. Still, I am missing important mail -- checks and bills; especially bills, which creates past due penalties.
Today I got bills that were two months past due! Several times I have not received checks. The senders had to track checks, to make sure they weren't cashed, then stop payment on them, and rewrite and resend.
Obviously, the only option is to make even more of my bills and billing electronic and to rely less USPS.
Its a costly and frustrating nuisance with no means of redress. :-(
